JP Burley participates in the Boxtops 4 Education, which earns cash for our school, and Campbell's Labels for Education, which earns merchandise for our school Start the year off right by letting the teachers/staff know we think they are special. Each month one or two parents provide a special ‘something’ for our teachers and staff to show them our appreciation for their efforts at JP Burley. For Teacher Appreciation Week, parent volunteers cover the lunch room duties for the teachers. This effort is really appreciated by the teachers, but it takes many parent volunteers (3 to 4 per shift). Breakfast/lunch are provided during this week. Organize a year-end ice cream social for the faculty as a part of teacher/staff appreciation week. Includes purchasing supplies, setting up, and serving ice cream sundaes to teachers and staff. Field Day is a fun, outdoor day run by the PE department, usually with water activities, pie throws and competitions between the kids and teachers. LOTS of volunteers are needed to run concessions, activities and games. The kids love it! Sit in the hallway during test time to make sure the hall remains quiet and that only one student enters bathroom at a time. Help teachers if requested. Organizes the lost and found closet and displays in school so items can be found/claimed. Teachers have very little time between the end of the school day and conferences beginning. The volunteer coordiates the planning and getting other volunteers to bring food, help with set-up, clean-up, etc. Coordinate that special night for the Eight Grade Graduates. Rising 5th graders visit from three local elementary schools, AVID families visit, and lots of school community activities is the trademark of this night. Dinner is provided ($FREE$) by the PTO, with donations accepted. Planning the meal (traditionally spaghetti and salad), getting food, drinks, and paper goods bought, cooked, and served |
